The story of Cake Pops

The story of these small delicious sweets and a lot of fun, because the cakes pops were born, as often happens for brilliant inventions, a bit by chance.
We must have their invention to the very good Angie Dudley Cake Designer also known as Bakerella, which has created Cake Pops for the first time in 2008 in Georgia.
Since then they have been increasingly successful and they have become ever more spectacular's protagonists of parties and sweet tables.

But what happened in 2008?

At the end of January 2008 Angie Dudley wanted to prepare a Sunday's sweet and so he prepared the round balls with a dough of a cake and to glaze them, because he wanted to make them pink, he used Candy Melts (Candy Melts is a kind of surrogate of Chocolate in colored white diskettes).
Finally to make them more cute put them on white sticks.

These first cakes pops have a great success on his blog.
But it was still nothing compared to what would have happened since the next day on.

On February 1, 2008 (the day after publishing Bakerella's first Pop Pop Cake on his blog) Angie published seconds Cake Pops by her designated, this time a bit more complicated.

They had the form of cupcakes, and they were really innovative.

After the publication of these little ones, nice sweets on a stick the fashion of the cupcakes has spread very quickly, becoming one of the favorite sweets for holidays worldwide.
Not even Angie imagined, what would happen after the publication of these Cupcakes on miniature stecco.

Here's the recipe to create the Cake Pops

There is no precise recipe, because the Cake Pops are a recycling of cake bases, creams etc.

To create them you need:

  • Sponge cake, yougurt cake, donut and any other type of cake. Biscuits, Pandoro, Panettone or Dove can also be used.
  • Jam or your favorite cream
  • You can also use dried fruit, coefully chocolate drops
  • White chocolate, milk, fondant or candy melts
  • Pops cake sticks
  • Decorations such as sugar, sugar sticks, hazelnuts or other dried fruit, but also sugar paste decorations, frozen

Procedure:

  • Crumble your favorite cake in a bowl and mix it with a bit of jam, cream or nutella, until you reach a homogeneous mass, from which you can withdraw small pieces and create balls.
  • If you love dried fruit or maybe chocolate drops, you can add them to the dough.
  • If you want to have the balls all the same I suggest you weigh dough. In this way you will have all perfect and precise balls.
  • Let the balls cool so cool a little.
  • Melt a bit of chocolate and candy melts, immerse inside the final part of the stick and insert it inside the ball.
  • In this way, thanks to the chocolate that solidifies, mixture will hold better on the stick.
  • The pellets that are prepared to go in the freezer, to be covered with melted chocolate or candy melts.
  • Chocolate or candy melts cliffs in a bain-marie or microwave.
  • Remove the Cake Pops from the freeper and immerse them like in chocolate or candy melts dropping excess cover.
  • Store on a tray upside down if you want to present them upside down or insert the cake pops in the appropriate displays for Cake Pops or alternatively you can also use a polystyrene, where you can insert the stick.
  • Now the Cake Pops are ready to decorate.

If you want to decorate them with sugar, beads, grain, coconut etc. you have to do it when chocolate is not yet well solidified.

If instead you want to decorate them with real frost, you have to wait for it to cool well (to accelerate cooling it is advisable to put them in the fridge)

If you want to decorate them with sugar paste you can do it even late at the sugar paste with a bit of melted chocolate.

Cake pops are very versatile. It can be perfectly combined with any theme of the party.

They can be delicate, romantic, tasty, imaginative, funny.

They can be decorated as the favorite children's characters.

There is no limit to imagination.

Prepare Cake Pops is fun and can also help children.
